Today is Day 7 of the Flats and Handwashing Challenge and even though it is the technical last day of this week long challenge, I think I will continue to use them through the 30th, since that was the original Challenge end date. If you're new and just coming in on this challenge, you can head over to Dirty Diaper Laundry and read the Rules to find out more about what's going on. Or you can read my blog entries on Prepping for the Challenge, The Night Before, Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5 and Day 6.
So far, today is another easy-going day with flats. Hubby got up this morning with little man and pinned a Diaper Bag Fold on him (I was so impressed and thankful for the extra sleep!). The flats and a cover are in the tub for a little soak before I finish the wash and hang them up to dry this afternoon. When I first rinsed the diapers today, I used a tip that I had read on Kim's Blog, Dirty Diaper Laundry:
Random Mom Brain suggested using a baby hairbrush to scrub out poop stains on flats and on covers. Why a baby hairbrush and not a stiffer bristle brush for dishes? These should be soft enough for covers without harming the PUL.
I tried that out last night when I rinsed a dirty diaper and then again this morning when I was rinsing a morning dirty diaper and it worked really well to lift out the stains. Thankfully, I haven't had any staining problems though during the entire week of the Challenge. The brush made getting the staining off the diaper really quick, but rubbing the flat against itself where the stain is worked pretty well also, it just took a little longer. I think it definitely helped, as well as the combo of detergent and the wonderful bleaching powers of the sun!
Here's a look at little man's nap-time diaper - a Zabi Baby Bamboo Flat folded in the Diaper Bag Fold and then I put a Swadlebees Flat that was Pad Folded inside of it. Then we covered it with a Thirsties cover - it was perfect for nap-time today!
Keep an eye out for some Sponsor Spotlight posts that I will be adding later today and tomorrow!
How is Day 7 of the Flats and Handwashing Challenge going for you? Is today going to be your last day or are you going to continue on with the Challenge through the 30th?
Newest Follower via Green Mama Blog Hop! Congrats on making it through the Flats Challenge. I'm a little sad I didn't try it out. :)
