Did you know that a family packing a waste-free lunch saves $400 annually and averts 4,320 pieces of trash? ...Neither did I!
Tired of throwing so many things away after only one use? Tired of running out of baggies or containers made from, well, who know what? I know I am! I have been slowly working towards having more reusable containers in our home and eliminating our need for disposable, plastic containers. There is a huge financial and environmental savings when you choose to switch to reusable lunch-ware and that is exactly how ECOlunchbox got started! ECOlunchbox is a wonderful company that was created out of a desire to find a more eco-friendly solution to using plastic baggies when packing school lunches. The founder, Sandra, searched and searched for reusable containers that her children could easily open & close, so there wouldn't be any extra waste filling up the garbage can! When Sandra couldn't find what she was looking for, ECOlunchbox was born! Sandra "...resolved to develop a lunch kit for kids ages 3 to 103... something healthy for people and the planet."
ECO Lunchbox has a "sensible, back-to-the-basics" collection of stainless steel bento boxes, bamboo or stainless steel sporks, artisan lunch bags and napkins that are plastic-free, waste-free, lead-free, BPA-free, PVC-free and vinyl-free. No need to worry about any toxins leaching into your little ones lunch (or yours!).
One thing that I really love about the ECOlunchbox bags is how colorful and unique their designs are. They work with directly with artisans in small villages to support their hand-worked cloth designs, which becomes the fabric for ECOlunchbags! Not only do they create some beautiful designs, but they are perpetuating a wonderful tradition of hand-worked cloth and cultural & artistic traditions to help them from disappearing! I just love that ECOlunchbox supports these artisans and their textile arts! So, not only will you be getting a uniquely designed lunch bag that is well made, toxin-free and machine washable, but you are also helping to support and sustain ancient textile traditions!
You can even watch a video about how the ancient Indian block printing traditions are being sustained with help from ECOlunchboxes:
For my review, I chose the Furoshiki ECOsnacksack in Ruby Stripes. The Furoshiki (pronounced f-ROHSH-kee) ECOsnacksack design is inspired by traditional furoshiki eco bags from Japan. It is a fully lined, cotton bag that has been made in India and "...sewn from colorful fair trade textiles and hand printed by artisans using wooden blocks and wax batik techniques perfected over generations." At 7 inches wide by 16 inches tall, it is perfect to pack snacks or lunch in and is easy to take anywhere!
Even though the bag may look small, don't be fooled! It can hold a lot!
I packed a water bottle, a reusable baggie full of crackers and 2 pouches of Yo' Drops in my Furoshiki ECOsnacksack...and had room for more!
I loved using my Furoshiki ECOsnacksack! I love the colors, designs and it is very well made. This is definitely a bag that will last and hold up to many washings and repeated use. I love using it to pack snacks or a lunch when we are out and about! It has also helped keep my snacks more organized when we go out. I used to just stash a couple snacks in my purse (which would inevitably get lost in there amidst all the other "stuff"), but now I can keep everything together in one place in my Furoshiki ECOsnacksack. I love having one place to reach for snacks whenever little man, hubby or I need a drink or something to eat!

All knotted and ready to go to the farmer's market with us! |
It fit perfectly in my purse! |
Little man decided that it was the perfect baggie for his play veggies! He was practicing for the farmers market! (Oh, and his shirt is wet with water...we had just finished splashing in the sink...he loves to help! Even if it is just helping with dishes!)
