Wordless Wednesday

A year ago I had a fresh, wonderful, new little bundle of joy:

Now, a few days past his 1st birthday, I have a year old who is rambunctious, spunky, wonderful  (but not so little anymore) bundle of joy:

What wonderful memories we have made over this past year! I treasure them all and cannot wait to see what year 2 will bring!

-CLOSED- Gifts From The Heart - Book Review & Giveaway!

"The finest gifts in all the world God put inside you..."
-excerpt from Gifts from the Heart

Recently I received the book, Gifts from the Heart by Victoria Osteen. Gifts from the Heart is a sweet and meaningful story about a little girl named Sue and her brother, Jon. They dive into their dress-up box and use their imaginations to become Princess Sue and the knight, Sir Jon. There is to be a royal celebration in honor of the kings birthday, but the children of the village have no money to buy a gift worthy of the king. Princess Sue and Sir Jon help the other children of the village to discover the talents they each possess and they use those gifts to put on a grand performance that delights the king!

Right now, my little man is a bit young to sit through a reading of this entire book, but he does enjoy flipping through the pages and looking at the illustrations! I love that this will be a book that can grow with him. As he gets older, I will be able to talk about the deeper meaning of the book and eventually, I can even go over some of the "Royal Q & A" with him! The "Royal Q & A" asks questions like, "What gifts do you have to share with the world? How can you share them?" and "Have you ever worked together on something big? Why is teamwork so important?" I really like how this story uses childrens imagination to tell a story of gifts that are meaningful while discovering the talents that God has placed inside each of us.

I think that this is a wonderful book for any "prince" or "princess" in your life! I think the message of the book is such an important lesson for all children- the best gifts come from the heart. This is especially an appropriate message with Christmas right around the corner!

A little bit about About Victoria:
Victoria Osteen serves with her husband, Joel, as co-pastor of Lakewood Church—America’s largest church. Today, as a nationally recognized Christian leader and the mother of two children, she is an inspiration and mentor to women everywhere. She is committed to helping women, children and families discover their purpose and reach their highest potential. This summer, she founded the Victoria Osteen Literacy Program,  with the hopes of promoting summer reading and encouraging kids to pick up a book and read with their families on hazy, lazy summer days—and throughout the rest of the year. You can find out more about her at VictoriaOsteen.com

“Reading brings families together. I’ve always loved reading to my children because
it’s such as a precious time of interaction and closeness.
We should savor every moment with our children and reading is a wonderful way to do that.”
-- Victoria Osteen

Make reading an important tradition for your family this Christmas and throughout the year by taking some quality time together as a family to just read together. I know that sitting down to read a book with our little man is not only fun as we get to read to our son while he turns the pages for us, but it a great opportunity to have some snuggle time!

I will have more to post about it this week for sure! Including some fun pictures of decorations and party festivities!

Friday Blog Hop Fun...

Happy Friday everyone! This week, I thought I would join in some Friday fun and hop along and find some new blogs to follow!

I also read this quote today and it made me smile/laugh (Bill Cosby always does!), so I thought I would pass it along to add to the Friday fun:
In spite of the six thousand manuals on child raising in the bookstores, child raising is still a dark continent and no one really knows anything. You just need a lot of love and luck - and, of course, courage.
-- Bill Cosby
Ahhh..too true! So many of the things that I have learned about parenting so far (you know, in my almost 1 year of experience ;) was not learned in a book.

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to my blog if you are a new reader! So happy to have you here!

Blush and Bashful Studio Review

I recently came across Blush and Bashful Studio from a review of her Etsy site on another blog and then I began reading her blog on some new amigurumi animals she had created. I commented on how cute I thought they were and how adorable it would be if she could create a hedgehog. Well, a couple days later, Rebecca contacted me saying that she did indeed have a pattern for a hedgehog and wanted to know if I would be interested in doing a review of her little amigurumi hedgehog! I was so excited! When my little hedgehog arrived, he was packed so nicely and he is just too adorable for words!
I have decided to name my new friend "little hedgie"

The quality and craftsmanship is just exceptional and his spikey little hedgehogy hair makes me smile every time I see him! I am so impressed with the crocheting of the hedgehog. I could never have imagined that you could make something like that! That is one of the reasons that I love Etsy so much- I just love discovering someone who has a talent for making something wonderful that I have no idea how to make! "Little hedgie" measures approx 5" long and is about 3" tall...and fits perfectly in the palm of my hand! Also, I should note that the eyes and nose are attached very, very securely and I don't think that there is any way little man could possible pry them off- which is good to know baby-safety wise!

So, originally, I thought it would be so cute for my little man to have a little toy hedgehog to play with...but, he's too cute to share! Haha! I figured (is justified a better word here?), little man is in the drooling/chew on everything stage and I don't want my new little hedgehog friend to suffer the fate of being mangled and drooled on to death, so for now, "little hedgie" keeps me company at my desk.  Someday I'll let little man play with "little hedgie"...maybe. Maybe mama isn't so good at sharing after all!

Rebecca of Blush and Bashful Studio makes more than just adorable little hedgehogs, she makes hats and scarves, hair clips and more! You will definitely want to take a look through her Etsy shop for some wonderful Christmas and birthday gifts or just something special for you or your little one!

Here are some of my favorites that I think little man may just have to have!
Vintage Style Crochet Ascot (Bow) Scarf
Cable Neck Warmer - Ok, I want this one for me!
Mouse Ear Beanie with Ear Flaps
Visor Beanie with Flower- I think little man would look adorable in this cap (minus the flower of course!)

In our emails back and forth, I got to ask Rebecca some questions about how she got started and where her inspiration comes from:

What inspired the name, Blush and Bashful Studio, for your Etsy shop?
My all time favorite movie is Steel Magnolias.  There is a pretty famous quote in the movie when Julia Roberts' character is describing her wedding colors as 'Blush and Bashful', and that part always sticks with me.

How long has your Etsy shop been open?
My shop has been open for 1 year and 5 months, since May 2009.

Do you remember the first item you sold in your Etsy shop?
Yes!  The first item I sold was my Mouse Ear Beanie with Flower Applique.  I absolutely love this beanie and have made one with ear flaps for my daughter to wear when we go to Disneyland.

How long have you been crocheting? Did someone teach you or did you pick it up on your own?
I've been crocheting for about 6 years.  My aunt first taught me the basics for making blankets and scarves.  With the help of the internet and books I've been able expand my knowledge. It has since progressed into an obsession, where I find that I need to be constantly creating new items.

What is the most unique item anyone has asked you to make?
The most unique item I have made is a amigurumi dragon.

What is your favorite item to make?
My favorite item to make changes a lot depending on my time and new patterns I've found.  Right now my favorite item is probably the Vintage Style Crochet Ascot (Bow) Scarf.

What would be the perfect way to spend a day?
I love the relaxing days that I spend with my husband and daughter.  Also the days that I get to spend with my big crazy family, since we are always laughing when we are together.

Any other fun or interesting tidbits of information you'd like to share?
I am very fortunate to be a stay at home mom with my beautiful little girl and am eagerly anticipating the arrival of our second daughter in February. My daughter is the light of my life and a huge inspiration behind all my items.

All of Rebecca's work can be customizable by size and color to be the perfect piece for your little one. She is meticulous with her work and is such a friendly person to chat with! I am so pleased with my little hedgehog - he is such a happy, cute little guy! I really am looking forward to shopping from Blush and Bashful Studio in the future!

What was your favorite item from her shop? Did you see something that you thought would be perfect for your little one? You can shop Blush and Bashful Studio's Etsy page here. Also, make sure you check out her blog and become a fan of her Facebook page! Happy Shopping!

Looking to Start Some Christmas Shopping? Look No Further Than Etsy!

I have a new love...shopping on Etsy! I love finding new little treasures that are handmade or vintage that make me go "ooohhh" and "ahhhh"! There are so many talented people who are blessed with gifts far beyond my own creative flair and I love to support those who create! I would much rather buy something for my little man, myself or a friend that is unique and handmade rather than a generic, big box store, one-of-millions gift. (Not that I have anything against Target or the mall...I love Target) One of my newest discoveries on Etsy is actually made by a friend of mine! She just opened her Etsy doors and I already have some orders placed with her! (So if you are family...don't spoil your Christmas present by buying them all!) My friend (and very talented photographer) Jennifer Yount has started packaging some of her images into greeting card sets!

Her collection is called the Divine Romance and she has some beautiful collections that would be perfect for writing a sweet note to someone or for birthday cards! She even has a holiday collection, if you are in the market for some beautiful Christmas cards to mail out! So go check out Divine Romance by Jennifer Yount Photography on Etsy! (If you take a look at her photography site, Jennifer Yount Photography, you'll see some pictures of my little man, the hubby and I too! She did a 9 month maternity photo shoot turned delivery photo shoot when little man decided to come 2 weeks early!)

-CLOSED- Belvedere Designs Review & $50 Gift Certificate Giveaway!

A little over a year has gone by since we moved into our home - at the time, I was newly pregnant and hubby was working a lot. We were able to paint the nursery, the laundry room and guest room and get those rooms decorated. Then little man came into the world and time flew by as we slowly painted one room at a time, but decorations and embellishments had fallen by the wayside. Now, with little man's first birthday quickly approaching and hubby having some longer breaks from work, we are kicking things into high gear to get the house looking nice for a birthday celebration and the holidays! One of the rooms that we recently painted was the kitchen. Ever since our trip to Europe two years ago where we stayed in a bed and breakfast in Tuscany, we have wanted a kitchen that reminded us of our stay in that bed and breakfast in Italy. So, we painted the kitchen a warm Tuscan gold and got a cute corner breakfast nook that fit perfectly in the space next to the slider door. But then we were at a loss of how to decorate that large blank wall space.

A little while ago I had randomly discovered Vinyl Wall Art when I was searching google for ways to decorate our kitchen. This search led me to Belvedere Designs site, wallquotes.com, where I found a host of beautiful Wall Quotes! Their site was just overflowing with wonderful designs and amazing pictures of where you could place wall quotes! I was just thrilled when I heard from Belvedere Designs that they wasnted to sponsor a review and giveaway through my blog! My mind was a-buzz with ideas! As I was looking through their Foreign Language Wall Quotes when I found this one:

The Italian Translation is: The days here in Rome are beautiful. I think I've definitely fallen in love with Italy and mamma mia - the pasta here is too good! - with love

Ah! It was perfect! So perfect in fact, that I have been thinking about going back to Italy non-stop since I saw it! I especially love all things vintage Europe (I even have a vintage luggage and luggage label collection!) Belvedere Designs created this wall quote for us in Chocolate and it is 12" tall by 44" wide. It fits the space perfectly! I think that it really adds something unique to the atmosphere of our kitchen. It looks like someone hand painted it on the wall and the Chocolate color coordinates perfectly with the table and curtain. It has really inspired me to have some of my pictures printed from our trip to Italy and hang them on the wall adjacent to our vinyl wall quote. I can't wait to get them framed and on the wall! The Belvedere Designs vinyl wall quote really adds some Italian personality to our kitchen and I just love how it turned out!

So, never put up Vinyl Letters before? Neither had we! Was it easy? Was it hard? I would say that it takes time and patience, but it wasn't hard. It is not a task (at least for the size we got) that you can just slap up on the wall. This is something that you want to look professional when it is done being applied. I was a bit intimidated because it was somewhat on the large size. I really didn't want to mess it up, so I waited until hubby was home from a work trip so that he could help me! We went over the directions together and then we set out to put our wall quote up!

These are the steps we took to put up our vinyl wall quote:
  • We already had a clean surface to start with, since we had recently painted (But if you don't, make sure you clean the wall first)
  • We figured out where we wanted the quote positioned on the wall, then we affixed it with some blue painters tape along the top (almost like a hinge)
  • We rubbed over the backing paper with the vinyl application squeegee (or burnishing tool) that comes free with your order.
  •  We lifted up the vinyl wall quote and slowly peeled off the underside of the backing paper, leaving behind the vinyl wall quote adhered to the transfer paper.

  •  Then we slowly lowered the vinyl wall quote back down onto the wall and starting from the top, we smoothed over the surface in long, sweeping downward motions, making sure that there were not any air bubbles under the transfer paper.
    • We then used the vinyl application squeegee (or burnishing tool) and rubbed it on the transfer paper against the wall. We made sure we did a very thorough job on this step, since our walls are textured.
    •  We then slowly peeled away the transfer tape, making sure that they vinyl wall quote was staying put on the wall as we went along. If we needed too, we laid the transfer tape back down over the quote and rubbed it to help it stick a little better.

       and...
      Voila! All done!
I think that it turned out fabulously. I think that the Belvedere Designs Vinyl Wall Art are made with impeccably high quality material and they pay great attention to detail! They have beautiful designs and a wonderful array of wall quotes, vinyl headboards, great wall art and they also do custom graphics! Belvedere Designs has something for everyone, they ship at a great, reasonable price of $5 and their customer service is a pleasure to chat with as well! They also have a monthly photo contest! Each month, you can submit photos of your wall quotes for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to spend on the wallquotes.com site!

Hubby and I had a fun time working on this project to add some Italian ambiance to our kitchen and I just love my Belvedere Designs wall quote! I love the quality of the vinyl, the color, how it is removable if we ever decide to repaint the kitchen, I love how affordable all the designs are and most of all, I love how it adds so much to the overall feel and decor of the kitchen! I am already dreaming of other areas in our home that would benefit from the unique touch of a Belvedere Designs Wall Sayings!
